This New York pizza may not be exactly like what you might find at some of the classic New York city pizza joints, but it's a great substitute when making a homemade version.
This crust was simple to make and came out with a bit of a crunch on the outside. The sauce I used was a simple recipe and I topped it off with shredded mozzarella (sliced fresh mozzarella is always better, but this is what I had on hand!).
I tend to be too light-handed with the cheese, so put on a little extra to make it extra gooey and delicious!

* 1 1/2 cups warm water
* 4 1/2 cups flour (all-purpose)
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 2 1/2 teaspoons sugar
* 2 1/2 teaspoons salt (I use Kosher)
* 1 packet active yeast
* cornmeal for sprinkling
In a large bowl, combine sugar and salt in warm water.
Add oil, flour and yeast and combine with a large spoon.
Divide dough into two equal parts for two large pizzas, or three parts for smaller pizzas.
Knead dough into a smooth ball and place in an oiled bowl to rest. Cover tightly with plastic wrap (put any dough you don't plan to use right away into the fridge or freezer for later use.)
Let dough rest for 1-2 hours or until it has doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Sprinkle pizza baking stone with cornmeal and place in preheating oven on bottom rack (can
skip this if using a pizza pan).
Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out into circle - roughly 12".
If using a pizza pan or baking sheet, spray Pam on pan (or lightly grease). Place dough in pan. If using stone, gently pull the rack with the stone out of oven and place dough on stone (using a pizza peel works best, but I just used my hands to drop it onto the stone - careful not to burn yourself!). pizza sauce recipe of your choice and add toppings.
Bake for approximately 20 -25 minutes, until crust is golden brown.
